NOW HIRING!
We hire Beach Masters (general staff/attendants), Summer Camp Instructors, Kayak Instructors and SUP Instructors for seasonal part-time opportunities from June 1-Sep 30 every summer.
Additionally, starting in 2025, there will be general staff available at the new sister site called the "Island Outpost". These staff members are grouped with the Beach Master role and must be available to move in between locations which are only a 2 minute walk apart. The Island Outpost will be open beyond the regular TISUP season from early spring to late fall.
Are you interested in working or volunteering outdoors with a stoked team of SUP & Kayak enthusiasts on Toronto Island? If you'd like a chance to learn more and rise to the challenge, see the job descriptions and fill out the application form below. Volunteers are accepted as well for energy exchanges. If you volunteer for at least 2 mid day weekend shifts (4 hours each) per month, you can get the same perks as staff including free rentals and guided experiences.
The main position with the most openings is the Beach Master, which is our general staff member and attendant of our operation. For this position, no teaching certifications are required but those with First Aid & CPR-C are preferred. We run in-house courses in case you are not up to date so please inquire if this is your case.
We hire new instructors every year as well and are always looking for new talent. For these positions, teaching certifications are required from a reputable certifying body. If you do not have any certifications but want to teach, apply as a beach master and go from there or find an instructor course near you. We often run in-house instructor programs for those who want to improve their skills and teach. Check out the Paddle Canada website for courses near you.
We are an inclusive equal opportunity employer and welcome all to apply regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation or ability.

What is the hiring process and timeline?
We start hiring in January and continue the first round until March or April. All of those who apply are considered potential candidates for an employment opportunity. Those who pass the initial application process on this page will be contacted to schedule an interview. Once hired, staff will be hired on a seasonal and part-time basis.
Our team consists of Beach Masters, Kayak Instructors, SUP Instructors, SUP Yoga Teachers, Team Building Guides and Camp Counsellors. These positions can and do overlap and are split between returning and new staff. Returning staff from the year before are generally offered employment for the next season first. Wages are competitive and are negotiated on a case-by-case basis and may be determined based on relevant experience and certifications.
Staff members engage in a two day paid training period some time in mid to late May prior to our opening date of June 1. The training period helps prepare and give staff knowledge on the area, our systems and equipment prior to the first actual shift. Other important training points that come up are customer service skills, staff communication, emergency protocols and more. Continual training on the job is necessary.
Staff are encouraged to take advantage of the perks of the job including free use of equipment with friends and family as long as it does not interfere with the regular day-to-day operations. There is sometimes another round of hiring in spring and summer. The season starts to wind down in September and by the end of the month, we stop all SUP & kayak experiences. Even though our season is from June 1 - September 30, I understand that every has a different situation and may only be able to manage some of those dates. Make a note in the application, for instance, if you start school in September or have a second job. Management is always available for support on your journey.
