Do I need to book online first?
No. However, we highly recomend that you do as we frequently get fully booked on weekends during the summer.
Do I need to be experienced to rent?
No! However, if you are new to Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) and or kayaking, we highly recommend taking one of our intro lessons to help enhance your experience. SUP and kayaking sports are open to all individuals at any level of athleticism.
Can my kids participate?
Of course! SUP and kayaking sports are great for kids. To ensure their safety, children under 18 must be accompanied and supervised on the water by an adult participant who is authorised to do so by the legal guardian or parent. If the child is receiving their own rental equipment, they must be able to swim. We have no strict age requirements for rentals so as long as they can manage the equipment safely, they are good to go. Age requirements on other experiences vary but we generally ask that they are 12-14 years of age for public timeslots so that they can keep up with the group. If the child is sitting with the parent or guardian in a single kayak or SUP, they can join for free. In this case they do not not have to meet the general swimming requirements but should be properly fitted with a personal flotation device and be able to at least float safely while wearing. They should never be more than arms reach from an adult. If you are taking advantage of this option, please take into account the safety considerations including weather, wind and water forecasts as well as your own abilities. If you're not sure, give us a call.
Can I bring my dog?
For paddleboard and some kayak rentals, yes! We have all sorts of boards and boats to support your furry adventure companions assuming you understand the risks. Doggy lifejackets are suggested but we do not supply them. Contact us ahead of time to make sure we have available the equipment you need before arriving. Most paddleboards are okay but we'd suggest planing boards. For kayaks, we suggest using the recreational style with extra space in the cockpit. For guided events such as Sunset Safari, Tours, Lessons and the like, we ask that you DO NOT bring your pet, as it can pose safety issues and reduce the enjoyment of others.
How do I get there?
We are located on Wards Island on the east side of the Toronto Island. You must take either the ferry or a water taxi to get here. For more details, please check out our Contact Us page.
Are lifejackets provided? Do I have to wear one?
At TISUP, we provide personal floation devices (PFDs) for your safety on the water. The difference between a PFD and a lifejacket is that a lifejacket will help you keep your head above the water- a PFD will not. That is why it is imperative that all participants have some basic skills in swimming.
At TISUP, our policy requires all participants to wear a PFD or lifejacket for the entire duration of their booking, regardless of the level of experience of the participant(s).

What should I wear or bring?
Swimsuits are a good choice, but anything that provides good comfort and mobility such as fitness or athletic clothes work great as well. On cooler days, you may want to bring an extra layer to help stay warm such as lycra or neoprene. It's a good idea to have a warm set of dry clothes to wear once back on land especially in the shoulder season and evening.
We also recommend leaving your shoes by the shoreline as they will likely get wet upon entering the craft.
Make sure you bring water, sunscreen and a hat (the sun can get pretty intense out there if you’re not careful) and consider renting or bringing a drybag for electronics such as cameras or phones.
We highly recommend that you bring at least one fully charged cellular device on the water so that you can contact us in case of emergencies and reference a photo of our map to prevent getting lost.

Is there somewhere I can keep my stuff while I’m on the water?
We have lockers on site for renting. Lockers may only be used for the duration of your booking. We also have medium to large drybags to rent for belongings you would like to take with you on the water.
