Book a stand up paddleboarding (SUP) lesson.

Explore the islands and learn with a certified Paddle Canada/International Surf Association SUP Instructor. Learn the basics like launching your board, from a beach or dock, paddling in a straight line, turning and more. Want more time on the water? Book an extra hour for $10 extra. Ask us about private and semi-private options as well for a more tailored approach. It's great for groups! Consider a physical distant staff party and team building experience. Minimum requirement for participation requires the ability to swim short distances and tread water even without a lifejacket on.

STAND UP PADDLEBOARDING LESSON
The introductory lesson is specifically designed for those with little to no experience on the water and is the best way to familiarise oneself with SUP. While taking the stand up paddleboarding lesson, you immerse yourself in the beauty of Toronto Island. Step away from the city on a 10 minute ferry ride and enter a place of beaches, parks and niche cafes in a quiet, natural setting. Once island side, find Wards Beach or the Algonquin Bridge. Check your booking details for location. Both locations are near the neighbourhoods of Wards and Algonquin on the shores of Lake Ontario. Intermediate and advanced levels are also available by request.

The lesson starts with a dry land portion. We go over board anatomy, theory, paddling technique, weather and water safety. Once everyone is suited up, the small group of up to 6 people heads out into the lake with the certified Paddle Canada SUP Instructor for the lesson. There you will learn positioning on the board, paddling in a straight line, turning, balance and many other techniques to help you get the most out of the 75 minutes.

We give some free time at the end for some self discovery and exploration. Once back on shore, you're debriefed and sent on your way to enjoy the beach, park or a meal at one of the local cafe's in the area.

Learning to stand up paddleboard is a unique experience that is gaining popularity around the world and Wards Island is the premier destination in Toronto. If you'd like to take your learning one step further, check out our accredited courses for a more detailed approach that comes with Paddle Canada Certifications.

Please arrive changed and ready to go. There are public washroom facilities (big brick building) at the entrance to Wards Beach at the corner of Fifth Street and Lakeshore Ave
nue and also at the Fire Station at 235 Cibola Avenue. As with all TISUP experiences on the water, you must have the ability to tread water and swim short distances to partake.

You will receive an automatic email once you book outlining your next steps. If you don't receive the email (if it's sent to junk mail), click  here for instructions. Please plan your trip. Be prepared to forfeit your experience with no refund if you do not arrive on time. If lesson does not reach the minimum amount of guests, we may cancel. You will not be charged until a minimum of 2 people have signed up or we decide to run the lesson.
